The booking platform "Airbnb" has published a new ranking - it lists the most popular accommodations of the portal of the past ten years, which are on the wish list of a total of 860,000 people.
Particularly striking: half of the holiday homes are located in eco-resorts, four were built from bamboo and two are far from civilisation.
Rank 10: Rustic flat by the water (Kotor, Montenegro)
This flat in Montenegro is on the wish list of around 53,000 Airbnb users. No wonder, because the old stone house is built directly on the water, and from its own terrace you look out over the huge bay of Kotor with its green hills and tiny islands. At under 50 euros per night, the flat is also relatively inexpensive.

Rank 9: The Cosy Palace (Marrakech, Morocco)
This typical Moroccan accommodation has been on holidaymakers' wish lists almost 60,000 times in the last ten years: here you sleep in a riad that has been lavishly and elegantly restored. The house is also located directly in the medina of Marrakech, the lively marketplace of the metropolis. At around 50 euros per night, the "cosy palace" is not exactly expensive by international standards.

8th place: The self-sufficient itHouse (Yucca Valley, California)
The focus of the "itHouse" in the Californian desert is clearly on glass as a building material: all fronts of the well-designed house consist of windows, and the accommodation is completely self-sufficient. Solar panels provide electricity and hot water, and the house was built to have as little impact as possible on the surrounding nature.
When you book in, however, there are two things you should be aware of: You won't have internet reception here, and at around 350 euros per night, the "itHouse" is one of the most expensive accommodations in the ranking.
Nevertheless, the glass box is on the wish list of more than 63,500 users.

7th place: Bamboo eco-hut (Ubud, Bali)
An absolute classic on any trip to Bali: an overnight stay in a bamboo hut. However, this accommodation is a bit more luxurious than the usual huts made of the natural raw material that grows everywhere on the island.
The eco hut, which is on the wish list of "Airbnb" users around 65,600 times, is located in the middle of the lush green rice fields of Ubud. The open room concept is supposed to connect you completely with nature, only a mosquito net separates you from your surroundings at night. The price: just under 60 euros per night.

Place 6: Dreamlike tropical tree house (Big Island, Hawaii)
Perched around four and a half metres above the ground, this high-end tree house is located in the Hawaiian forest on Big Island. Almost 66,300 users would love to spend the night here among the treetops, although the ascent is via a very steep staircase.
Once you reach the top, however, a chic, brightly furnished bedroom with gramophone speakers and a rain shower awaits you. The price for this special experience is quite reasonable: around 260 euros per night.

Place 5: Luxurious stone villa (Crete, Greece)
This villa is actually a cave that was intricately carved out of natural rock and used to store agricultural produce. Now it is one of the most popular accommodations on "Airbnb" with around 76,600 wish list entries. But the cave is by no means underground, the house is much more built around the rock that stands above Kissamos Bay. You can book this unusual accommodation in the low season for as little as 50 euros per night.

Place 4: Eco hut made of bamboo (Agung, Bali)
The second bamboo hut on Bali in this ranking differs significantly from the first in terms of luxury: the eco-retreat on the active volcano Agung is on users' wish lists more than 77,000 times and is tucked away by a babbling brook in the rice fields on the slope of the mountain.
The two-storey huts are so popular that you have to book your stay here several months in advance. The price for the glassed-in designer huts is impressive: Around 150 euros per night.

3rd place: Romantic cabana with a view (Armenia, Colombia)
Another accommodation made of bamboo! This one, however, is in the Andes of Colombia, in the middle of the coffee fields of an eco-farm where tropical fruits are also grown. Almost 100,000 Airbnb users would like to spend their holidays here and get close to the country's nature in this remote place.
The best thing about the cabana: it's not expensive at all. For 35 euros per night, you can relax and enjoy the fresh air of the Andes.

Place 2: Hector's Cave House (Santorini, Greece).
This unusual accommodation was carved into the steep cliffs of the island of Santorini and is on the wish list of almost 134,000 users. The white cave was once used as a wine cellar, today it serves as a noble flat for holidaymakers.
Inside, the cave provides a pleasantly cool indoor climate, but on your own terrace you can fully enjoy the Greek sun and splash around in the private mini pool with sea view. However, so much luxury also has its price: a night here costs around 600 euros in summer.

Rank 1: The seven towers of Trullo Edera (Ostuni, Italy)
With almost 164,500 wish list entries, this extraordinary house in southern Italy clearly wins the ranking of the most popular Airbnb accommodations. The round house in the small village on the Adriatic has seven towers, and olive trees provide shade in the large garden. Luxury is defined differently here: The furnishings are rather rustic and simple, the luxury of the accommodation is rather in its remoteness and tranquillity.
Here you can experience real Italian village life at a fair price. You only pay around 80 euros per night for the whole property.
